Happy New Year

 Christmas came and went. All went well. Santa was generous with the gifts this year. I got a new golf bag and a dozen golf balls. I took the kids for a ride in the golf cart. Kids always want to go faster. 




Santa also shared a flu bug this year. It's a mean one Mr. Grinch. Achy bones, fever, and cold chills. I can't breath or stop coughing. I hate that stuff. I'm heavily medicated and seriously doubt I will be staying up anywhere near midnight for New Years. 

Changes for 2026. Right off the bat, ATT is changing my internet connection. They are no longer supporting landlines and DSL cables. I'm being switched to an 'Air-Hub' router in January. It's supposed to work with their cell towers. Unfortunately, this area isn't known for strong or reliable cell signals. This may turn out to be a big misadventure. Regardless, we will have to change the wi-fi router and password on every device in the house. All the TVs, computers and tablets. Oh joy.

Next change is that I need a new cell phone. I've had mine for about ten years now and it's starting to show its age. My concern is swapping all the data over. Like I know how to do that. I'm not too good with today's technology. QR scans and apps. Phooyee. Tech support. Good luck with that. 
I don't like changes anymore. I'm getting too old for this new techy stuff. Too many Matrix glitches.

 I'm using this blog as my daily journal. It occurred to me that sharing these stories might be useful to the rest of you as to what you can expect in life as you get older at my age. I will be your life guide. No charge of course. The topic today is SLEEP. They say you need less as you get older. I will take as many hours of rest as I can get.  The challenge for me is my sleep patterns. I stay fairly active every day. Yesterday was a big day in the yard. Several hours scooping up leaves. By 7:30 pm, my eyes were drooping. Time to hit the sheets. Lying in silence is no bueno for me. I like background noise. Sometimes I listen to old radio shows from the 40s and 50s. I'm also a big fan of old sci-fi movies. Space rockets and giant monsters. Most nights, the distraction will quiet my mind and the sandman will haul me away. Other nights are most frustrating. Note to Self

  Notes, Lists, Post-its. I use every available resource to remember critical tasks. The problem is I forget where I wrote my reminder or worse, sometimes I can't find my notebook. I'm an old school pencil pusher. Why not use my phone you ask? That's nuts. I don't carry my phone with me. I occasionally lose that as well. Most of the bills are on auto-pay. No worries there. Running low on toothpaste, make a shopping list.  It's the odd jobs. Driving at sunset and discovering I need to clean the windshield. Porch light is out, I need to change the bulb. I will write a note and eventually get to it. When I find the time to work, I can't find my notes. I write a new note to find my old notes.  I have a notebook for cooking and recipes. Small details matter. I made enchiladas this past week. The last few times I made them I got lazy and skipped a step. You must soften the tortilla in hot oil before soaking them in the sauce. Head West Day 1

 First leg of my road trip is in the books. From Hot Springs Ark, to Marshall Tx. Just west of Shreveport La. A short 4 hour drive, but it rained on me the entire trip. Maybe an omen for things to come. I pray not. I had a late start today as I had a haircut appt. this morning. That was a must do. My hair was starting to touch my ears and it was bugging me bonkers. I may freeze on the road, but at least I will be looking good. I decided to dive straight south to the Gulf coast as quickly as possible instead of our usual route to Dallas. I'm not taking any chances with a sneaky early freeze. I should be far enough Southwest by Friday that I hope to miss the snow and ice.
