Day 4 Post
Man I'm pooped. This cross country stuff isn't for the weak. I remember it being a lot more fun when I was younger. Day 4 and one more to go.
Day 3 was pretty boring. I got out of Midland early before the ice and sleet hit that afternoon. West TX is flat and dull. I could have taken a nap. Until I hit El Paso. Just as I get into downtown traffic, the clouds open up with downpours. Can't see a bloody thing. More rain for most of the day. Quick note of interest. First stop in NM for gas and snacks. I get a drink and some chips. The cashier asked if I wanted to buy a paper bag for my goodies for 11 cents. What was that again?? Buy a bag? No thanks, I can carry it. What a scam!
Day 4 starts with more weather issues again. This time it's dense fog. Luckily, there isn't much traffic coming from the East due to the sleet and ice just behind me. Once again, I can't see a bloody thing. By the time I get to Tucson, the skies have cleared up and I'm finally in the sunshine.
I like the Arizona desert. It has a warm feeling to it, even in the winter. One of my favorite sights is the Saguaro cactus in this area.
It's snowbird season here in the desert. Retired seniors from the great white north haul their giant RV trailers to the warm and dry sands by the thousands. They stay all winter and bug out in the spring before the heat kicks in. Reminds me of an alien invasion and everyone is bugging out to the boonies.
I made it to CA today. Not by much. Just a few miles over the state line to Needles. For the entire trip, I've paid on average, $2.60 to $2.70 a gallon for gas. Here in CA it's over $6.00. Just across the river, it's less than half the price. Crazy dumb politics.
Spending all this solo time on the open road, you can have some interesting conversations with yourself. Hours of reflection. What could have been. What might happen? Life is crazy. I've learned to hit it head on with a side of levity. Unless it's a kick to the groin. No laughter to be had on that one.
I should be on the central coast tomorrow afternoon. Steve's surgery went well and should be home when I get there. My dilemma is what to eat first? In-n-Out, tacos, pastrami sandwich, or Tri-Tip?
And all that great wine. It's not going to drink itself. I'm there to help and do my part. Always a team player. More to follow.
Stay warm and be safe. Love you all

Hoping for some beautiful California sunshine for you today and some tasty treats along the way. Getting ever closer!
ReplyDeleteSunny skies here in Ca. Felt good to finally roll down a window.
