Food vs Feast

We went out for dinner this evening. Went to the DeSoto Club here in the village. It's like a country club on the golf course, but not as swanky. It's good food and atmosphere. Wednesday is ladies night and half price wine drinks. Live music as well. An older gentleman plays classical guitar music. Very soothing.

Our dinner conversation turned to food. You have your regular daily meals. Fill your belly because you're hungry. Then there are special meals. I enjoy cooking specific meals. I like cooking on the grill and smoker. Sunday is reserved for grilled ribeye steaks and baked potato.

Then there is the next level. Authentic foods. I will start with BBQ in Texas. Not the big chain restaurants. But small town road stands. Homemade sauces. Best brisket and sausages.
Stacy loves sushi and noodles. I recall my days in Japan and Okinawa. There is something to be said about atmosphere. To be sitting in a small sushi shop on the street corner. Paper lanterns and the smell of fish. Scooters rushing by. Best sushi and noodles ever. Yaki Soba noodles in Okinawa. Nothing comes close. Must be something in the water there.
Street food in Thailand. Not exactly sure what the meat was, but it was spicy and good. Steak and shrimp in Australia, very tasty.
Italian food. Love that stuff. But I haven't been to Italy. I would like to travel to a small coast town and try a seafood pasta dish.

My good friend Sara-Jane is a traveler and foodie. She has travelled to many places in Europe and sends me pictures of the best looking dishes. My twins have been to Spain. I bet they have some good stories on some local specialties. I'm thinking the better part of travelling is the food. I would still put money on Jack-in-the Box Tacos. You can't get anything like those anywhere in the world.

I have travelled all over the world a few times. My memories seem to focus on the food. Fancy food is not my fancy. Goat in the Middle East, not for me. Oxtail soup, blood pudding from England, no thanks. Schnitzel and Sauerkraut from Germany, not my thing. Fish tacos in Mexico, bring it. Salmon in Canada, yummy. Chicken jerky in Jamaica, give me two.

We eat to live and survive. I grew up eating Hamburger Helper. It was cheap and simple to make. Pizza and KFC chicken was a treat. Travel in the military was an eye opener. Not just the food, but the atmosphere. Visiting the culture added to the taste bud experience.

So here is your chance to express your experience in food. Share your best story of travel and food. We love Morro Bay Ca. Best seafood and Mexican food. Sunsets on the coast. Fog horn in the distance. We never leave hungry. I miss a good Pastrami sandwich from the Hat in Ca. Big burger and onion rings from the Greek Omega. Good memories. Of course In-in-Out Double Double animal style.

If you had your choice, where would you feast? Food and country? I'm hungry again : )
